Jason Bright has praised Cameron McConville's performance in yesterday's Tasmanian race after he was drafted in to replace the injured Team BOC driver.
Wearing Bright's racing kit, including helmet and boots, McConville came from dead-last to P19 after 84 laps in a car he had never driven before.
McConville had just hours to prepare for the race after Brighty was side-lined due to a rib injury. He is undergoing tests in Melbourne today and is still hopeful of a speedy recovery.
Jason Bright
"While I was in hospital, waiting for X-rays to be cleared for the flight, I was watching the race on Twitter as best I could. I thought Cam made very good ground.
"Jumping into a car that you haven't tested, let alone on a race weekend where everyone else has had Friday practice, qualifying and a race to get to the speed they're at, I thought his pace was very good.
"He was quicker than quite a few guys that he shouldn't have been and not far off the front-runners in pace. I thought he did a great job."
Cameron McConville (speaking with Speedcafe.com)
"It felt really weird when I drove the car for the first time on the formation lap. I'd only been at full throttle twice when the lights went out. It felt weird, but I have to say, I really enjoyed it.
"I was surprised. I felt a lot more comfortable than I thought I would, especially once I found my braking markers and things like that. We didn't set the world on fire, but I was happy to be inside the top 20."
