Padlock Security Grades

The grades below show how Lockwood padlocks perform under rigorous testing. Security requirements are classified into ten grades, determined through performance tests that simulate real-world attacks. Each padlock’s security rating is based on its lowest test result achieved.

Physical Security (SP) grades define resistance against forced attack, including pulling, twisting, cutting, drilling, sawing, and impact. The higher the SP grade, the greater the padlock’s resistance to physical attack.

SP grades range from SP1 (basic security) to SP10 (maximum security).

Durability grades measure how many operating cycles a padlock can withstand while continuing to function reliably. This includes opening and closing the shackle.

D1: 5,000 cycles
D2: 25,000 cycles
D3: 100,000 cycles (maximum rating)

These grades ensure padlocks remain functional under repeated daily use in demanding environments.

All Lockwood padlocks and padlock accessories are exposed to an accelerated corrosion test to evaluate their resistance to corrosion. Exposure is to a neutral salt spray in accordance with related Australian standards. Padlocks and padlock accessories are classified in five grades as listed.

The padlocks and padlock accessories are exposed to the neutral salt spray for up to 240 hours (Grade 5). After the test it must be possible to operate the padlock with its key in the normal manner.

C1- Very Low	Not applicable.
C2 - Low	Environments that are normally dry, including the majority of interiors
C3 - Moderate	Environments that are sometimes damp in the majority of rural and suburban localites, including interiors where condensation may occur
C4 - High	Environments that are often wet and/or subject to slight pollution by sulpher dioxide, acid, alkali or salt, including some particularly damp interiors and the majority of exterior environments.
C5 - Very High	Environments in very corrosive localities such as those subject to effect (or combination) of industrial and coastal conditions.
